Day 38 – Advice on Ashes

Seven years ago on Maundy Thursday, my father’s ashes arrived unexpectedly on our doorstep. “Human Remains” was the first clue. What to do? I took them to church and met with a priest. She suggested I let them hide and rest buried for a while behind the luscious chapel greens.

She continued, “After you read Noah’s story during the Vigil, you can resurrect them. By then what to do next will be clear.”

Día 37 – Cuando Dos o Tres

Day 36 – More about the Body

During most weeks of the academic year I have read the text assignments for three years of Education for Ministry (EfM). The last ten pages about Christian history, from the tome by Diarmand MacCulloch, always feel like the final leg of a triathlon. As if I would know. True confession: mine were always mini-triathlons. But you knew that, of course. Each time I finish uninjured, with God’s help, I’m proud, I’ll admit, and grateful.

Readings

Tues Apr 12 – Isaiah 49:1-7, Psalm 71:1-14 (6),1 Corinthians 1:18-31, John 12:20-36

Day 35 – Stuff and Stuffed

Artwork from St. Mark’s Palm Sunday bulletin

At this point of whittling down the stuff of my mother’s life, a larger percentage is treasures. It feels like I am beginning to see her bones. I am doing everything I can not to expose mine.

Lord, have mercy.

Day 34 – Our Festival

Our wedding was 39 years ago today. We invited our friends and family from Virginia and Michigan and Seattle and beyond. We gathered at Fort Worden State Park near Port Townsend for a long weekend of festivities. It was glorious. Spring weather, all kinds of it. Just like our marriage. It’s been glorious too.
